Sour Cream Chicken and Dumplings

This recipe was given to me by my Mom. It is an outstanding recipe.

2 fryers, cut into parts
1 pint chicken broth
1 pint sour cream
1 stick butter
4 tablespoons flour
4 tablespoons paprika
1-1/2 large onions, chopped
Salt and pepper
3 T. margarine, for browning onions

Wash and cut up chicken. Melt 1 stick of butter in large frying pan, add chicken, salt and pepper, and sprinkle with paprika. Cover and let simmer until fork tender. When done, leaving drippings in pan, place chicken parts in large covered casserole or pan. In small frying pan brown onion in margarine. In large bowl mix sour cream with flour, then add broth, mix well. Add sautéed onions. Pour mixture into large frying pans and combine with drippings. Simmer 5 minutes. Add sauce to chicken in casserole. Bake in 350 oven for one hour.

2 cups flour
1 teaspoons salt
1 egg
½ cup water
½ c milk
4 slices white bread (cut into cubes, remove and discard crusts)

Combine flour, salt, egg, water and milk. Add bread cubes. Drop into boiling salted water, serving spoon size as they do grow. Cook for 30 minutes in partially covered pot.
Take chicken out of casserole and place on serving platter, add dumplings to sauce and serve.

I usually double the dumpling recipe as well as the sauce, using 2 fryers plus 4 chicken breasts.

Ooh! That first recipe sounds like pure comfort food, which I always want this time of year.

BTW, welcome!
